CLAY WALL COPING

Clay wall coping adds a touch of elegance and distinction to any wall. Clay wall coping is vacuum extruded from the finest clays and fired to 2000°F. Because vitrified clay is inert, it is immune to the ravages of moisture, corrosion, decay and chemical action. Glazes do not add to the weather resistance or general durability of clay wall coping. When properly installed on top of the wall and sealed with mortar, no moisture should run into the wall. Clay coping is the most durable and economical coping available.

Directions for Installation

Coping is manufactured and shipped as a block 2-feet long, yielding 4 linear feet per block. To split the block on the job site, use a wide mason’s chisel and hammer in the kerf. Tap one to two times at the bottom, middle and top of each side or until the block separates. Coping should be embedded in a thick bed of mortar laid on top of the wall. All socket joints must be completely filled and the exposed mortar carefully pointed. On sloping walls, sockets must be laid downslope to prevent water from running into the socket joints.

FIRE BRICK & CEMENT

Luisi Building Materials Company, Inc. supplies Brooklyn, NY contractors, masons, home owners and specialty builders with refractory bricks for any and all projects—from kilns to chimneys, fireplaces to firepits. The quality of our fire bricks is unrivaled, lending peace of mind to your refractory construction project.

Refractory Applications

Regular brick and mortar alone aren’t enough to stand up to high-heat and consistent fire exposure. For refractory applications like fire pits, brick ovens, kilns and other installations, fire bricks are essential. We supply ceramic fire bricks for these applications and more, to ensure high-heat temperatures are controlled and that external masonry is not affected by these conditions. Bricks are offered in 2 sizes; 4” x 8” x 2 ¾” and 4” x 8” x 1 ¼”and the recommended maximum operating temperature is 2000°F (1093°C).

Our fire bricks offer low thermal conductivity, ensuring longevity and brick integrity for extended periods of time, regardless of exposure. It’s why masons and contractors turn to us for fire bricks whenever they’re constructing a refractory project.

Whether it’s a small residential fire pit or an industrial-sized kiln, we can provide you superior-caliber fire bricks in bulk, at a great price.

CEMENT

HEAT STOP is a premixed and ready to use refractory mortar. It was developed for installation of firebrick in masonry fireplace installations. It also has many other uses such as in chimneys, boilers, furnaces, kilns and etc. This refractory mortar is gray in color and is shipped in 15 lb. and 50 lb. plastic pails.

  • For estimating purposes 50 lbs. will lay up approximately 100 firebricks (2 ½ inches thick) if joint thickness is 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch as recommended.
  • Mix thoroughly. No other additives required.
  • If frozen, unfreeze and mix thoroughly.
  • Meets and exceeds ASTM C-199 medium duty.
  • Meets all local and national building codes.
  • Good for applications well over 2000 0F.
  • HEAT STOP premixed is an air setting product, however may be water soluble in service. Do not use on exterior applications or where excessive moisture may be present. Use HEAT STOP II or HEAT STOP – 50 non-water-soluble products for moisture present applications.

TIP when using Heat Stop Premixed. For best results:

Mix all of the contents in the container thoroughly before using.
If, after mixing, the product still appears dry, add a little clean water and remix it thoroughly.
For firebrick installation, keep the joints 1/16″ to 1/8″ thick.
This product may take longer to dry if the joints are thicker than 1/8″, and/or if conditions are extremely humid (such as after a recent rain). To enhance the drying in such conditions, open the damper, place a fan in front of it, or use other means to get some air or heat passing by the installation.

This convenient pre-mixed, ready-to-use product is available in one-gallon or 50-lb. pails. This product works well in firebrick installations such as fireplaces, boilers, furnaces and kilns. Gray color. Also available in beige color. Water soluble.

FLUE PIPE

Clay Flue liners are virtually impenetrable to the heat, oils and gases used in chimneys. Installed correctly they are projected to last over 50 years if cleaned correctly.
